We invite you to pray for our nation
In response to reaching the terrible milestone of 100,000 deaths from COVID-19, the Archbishops invite all to call on God in Prayer.
Starting on 1 February we invite you to set aside time every evening to pray, particularly at 6pm each day.
More than ever, this is a time when we need to love each other. Prayer is an expression of love.

Temporary Suspension of Public Services of Worship in AVMC Churches

It is with sadness that we must announce the temporary suspension of church services in our churches due to the present Covid problems.
This decision has been taken in response to the need to protect each other at a time when the illness is affecting so many people nationally and locally.
The government message of ‘Stay at home’ does seem to be the best way to protect all and especially our most vulnerable.
We will review this position regularly and will re-establish services as soon as is deemed safe for all.
In the meantime please do access our on line and home based services and events details of which you will find on this page and in Pews News

  • We will resume the ‘live’ Zoom services at 10.30am each Sunday – details published in Pews News.
  • YouTube services will be available on-line from 10.00am each Sunday - details again published in Pews News.
  • A 4.00pm Telephone Service will be available each Sunday for the duration.
  • The 10.30 am Friday Morning Telephone Services will continue each week.
  • On-line Bible studies/home groups should continue throughout ‘lockdown 3’.
  • PCC and other meetings will take place electronically and not in churches or buildings.

We know that these remain difficult times, and whatever decisions are taken there will be some who question, or actively disapprove of the actions taken. We can only ask that everyone recognises that we seek to offer the best possible care to all and particularly our most vulnerable. Decisions have been taken prayerfully and after much thought – and are (hopefully) for the short term until it is safe and appropriate to return to more ‘normal’ provision.
We would also thank everyone for the quiet acts of kindness and care you show to others - the telephone call that encourages; the card that thanks; the shopping done for another; the little things which remind us that we are not alone or forgotten. They really do make a difference.
We will continue to need everyone to keep others in mind and care and thank you for redoubling efforts to support each other.

We are a people of hope and we can develop and grow through the coming months. Let us work together to see a safe and successful church emerge from the present challenges.

God Bless You. With thoughts and Prayers
Clive, Nicky and the Axe Valley Mission Community

Christians Against Poverty (CAP)
Debt is an insidious and demoralising problem which affects many people and drastically impacts on lives.
A group of people from the churches in Seaton have for some time been looking into possible ways of providing a service to help those who are affected, and have been looking into the potential for establishing a local group linked to the Christians Against Poverty (CAP) network.
St Gregory's in Seaton are taking a leading role in this and are wanting to get the information out as far across the Axe Valley as possible.
There was a meeting last week for interested parties and they have agreed a way forward - the CAP group will be known as 'Axe Valley Cap'.
Please do pray about this initiative and find out more by downloading this leaflet
Food Bank & Hamper Collections
The importance of the foodbanks has much increased in the last weeks. Please consider donating food gifts and money because these really make a difference and are especially important under the present circumstances.
Currently it is not possible to donate via the church. However there should be donation boxes in the Tesco and Coop stores, or contact ACER.
Do make sure items are in date, non–perishable and not ‘started’ or re–boxed, as such items cannot be used by the food banks.
Thank you for your generosity.

Daily Hope offers music, prayers and reflections as well as full worship services from the Church of England at the end of a telephone line.

The free national phoneline  – which is available 24 hours a day on 0800 804 8044 – has been set up particularly with those unable to join online church services during the period of restrictions in mind. It will continue to run as lockdown is eased.

Callers can hear a special greeting from the Archbishop of Canterbury as one of the options, including hymns, prayers, reflections and advice on COVID-19.

Whilst the fact that you are reading this suggests you have no problem in accessing online services and resources, you may be aware of others who don't have readily available access to the internet.
Please do share this if you are able.
The line is available 24 hours a day on 0800 804 8044.

Telephone Tree
We are already hearing of much telephone support and encouragement around the area. Talking to someone can be a real encouragement to both parties. Why not call someone and simply have a chat.
We are building a telephone tree – asking those who are willing to make phone contact with two or three people every couple of days to avoid folk becoming isolated. If you are willing to help or would like to be called please contact Mrs Maureen Arnold on 01297 32922 (after 10.00am please).

We do need your permission to involve you in this contact tree.
Don’t be alone - Call someone – don’t wait for them to call you.

Annual Parochial Church Meetings 2020

It is a requirement of the Church of England that every year each parish church holds an Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM).
Normally APCMs are held by the end of April, but this year due to COVID the bishop has allowed an extension so that the meetings can held by the end of October 2020.
At the APCM Church Wardens and other PCC members are appointed (voting if required).
For AVMC there are 7 APCMs (the one for the Minister includes Holy Cross).
Public reports covering the year 2019 are provided by the PCC of the relevant parish church for the APCM.
Copies of these reports can be downloaded from the Documents page.
